작업 초기에 주목했던 주제는 “사람의 내면은 무엇으로 구성되어 있는가?”였다. 나는 그것을 크고 작은 경험이 남긴 흔적들의 조합으로 보았고, 이를 명확하게 언어화 되기 이전의 이미지로 인식해 회화로 표현해왔다. 이를 위해 각기 다른 사연과 시간을 품은 소재들을 하나의 사물의 형태에 빗대어 재조합하거나, 특정한 장면으로 연출하여 내면의 심리적인 풍경과 함께 삶에 대한 여러가지 생각을 담아왔다. 그림의 소재가 되는 사물을 바라보면서 그것들이 어떤 이유로 각기 다른 외형을 갖게 되었는지, 또 쓰임을 잃은 사물들이 주변과 맺는 관계에 관심을 두고 탐색하였다. 점차 사물이 지닌 감정이나 의미보다 형태가 주는 시각적 감각에 집중하게 되었고, 사라지는 중의 사물이나 순간의 이미지처럼 변화 속에 놓인 형태들에 이끌렸다. 이는 사그라드는 순간들을 잡아놓고 싶은 마음의 반영이기도 하다.
이렇게 건져 올린 이미지들은 다시 큰 화면에서 재구성된다. 이미지가 서로 부딪히며 만들어내는 형태와 색의 밀도, 명도의 변화 속에서 화면의 균형을 찾아가며, 이미지가 그 자체로 존재할 수 있는 자리를 마련해 주고자 한다.
또한 드로잉 과정을 낚시에 비유하여 작은 드로잉과 오브제, 회화를 공간에 함께 설치하여 작가와 캔버스 사이에서 일어나는 일들을 시각화하고자했다. 이를 통해 평면을 넘어 공간 속에서 이미지가 떠오르고 자리 잡는 과정을 탐색하였다. 나에게 예술은 사라져가는 것들을 바라보며 그 순간의 감각을 붙드는 일이다. 회화는 고정된 형태가 아닌, 변화하는 감각에 대응하는 과정이라 생각하며 지속적으로 실험하고자 한다. (양소정, 작가노트)
The subject that first drew my attention was the question: what is the interior of a person made of? I came to see it as an accumulation of traces left by experiences large and small — and I have worked to render these as images that exist just prior to being fixed in language, expressing them through painting.
To this end, I have recombined materials carrying different stories and histories by likening them to the form of a single object, or staged them within particular scenes — holding within them both the psychological landscape of an interior life and various thoughts about the nature of living. Looking at the objects that become the subjects of my paintings, I became interested in why each had come to take its particular form, and in the relationships that objects stripped of their function develop with their surroundings.
Gradually, I found myself drawn less to the emotions or meanings an object carries and more to the visual sensation produced by its form alone — pulled especially toward forms caught in the midst of change, like objects in the process of disappearing, or images of a single passing moment. This, too, is a reflection of a desire to hold onto moments as they fade.
The images gathered in this way are then recomposed on a large canvas. In the density of form and color, and the shifts in value that arise as images press against one another, I work to find the balance of the picture surface — to give each image a place where it can simply exist.
I have also likened the act of drawing to fishing, installing small drawings, objects, and paintings together in space in order to make visible what takes place between the artist and the canvas. Through this, I have explored how an image surfaces and finds its footing not only on a flat plane, but within space itself.
For me, art is the act of watching things disappear — and holding onto the sensation of that moment. I think of painting not as fixed form, but as a process of responding to sensation in flux, and I intend to keep experimenting.

페이지룸8 [페이지룸 에잇]은 전시와 책의 유기적이고 무한한 관계를 지향한다. 2021년 3월에 공간을 오픈하면서 본격적으로 기획전을 진행하고 있다. 전시는 크게 몇 가지 시리즈 프로젝트와 기획전으로 구성하고 작가의 작품을 모티프로 출판을 하며 신진 작가와 중진 작가의 작품을 효율적이고 집중도 있게 소개하고 있다.
Pageroom8 — pronounced Pageroom Eight — is a Seoul-based gallery guided by the organic and boundless relationship between exhibitions and books. Since opening its space in March 2021, the gallery has actively pursued curated programming organized around several ongoing series projects and thematic exhibitions. Working across both emerging and mid-career artists, Pageroom8 produces publications inspired by its artists' practices, presenting their work with focus and depth.

“NUANCE” [뉘앙스]
페이지룸8은 “더프리뷰서울 2026”에서 회화, 입체/평면, 한국화, 판화 등 작가 5인의 작품으로 부스를 구성한다. 산책을 통해 발견한 빛의 다양한 모습을 개념적으로 통찰하여 회화로 표현하는 신준민 작가, 초현실적으로 연출된 알레고리를 오브제 삼아 회화와 설치를 하는 양소정 작가, 기억과 감성을 산술적으로 환산하거나 개인이 영감받은 시와 수필에 기반하여 귀결되는 입체적 조각과 설치를 실현하는 정윤주 작가, 사적이고 신화적 내러티브를 투영하는 현실의 판타지를 한국화로 표현하는 정해나 작가, 삶을 둘러싼 경계에 있는 세계에 대한 기시감과 상상력을 리노컷을 통해 재조합하는 한지민 작가 등 모두 2026년 페이지룸8에서 개인전 혹은 단체전에 참여한다.
이렇게 작가 5인은 시각을 비롯하여 미세한 공감각 그리고 개인의 미감과 감각을 통해 표면 이면에 있는 의미와 느낌을 정교하게 담아내어 작품을 제작한다. 이 섬세하고 미묘한 차이를 우리는 “뉘앙스”라고 한다.
NUANCE
Pageroom8 presents NUANCE, a group presentation featuring five artists working across painting, sculpture, installation, Korean ink painting, and linocut printmaking. Each artist approaches the threshold between surface and depth — giving form to sensations, memories, and narratives that resist straightforward articulation.
Shin Junmin translates the many aspects of light encountered through walking into conceptually grounded paintings. Yang Sojeong constructs surreally staged allegories that operate as objects, bridging painting and installation. Jung Yoonzoo renders memory and emotion through an arithmetic logic, or draws from personally resonant poetry and essays, to produce three-dimensional sculptures and installations. Jung Haena works in Korean ink painting to express a fantasy of reality — one filtered through private mythology and narrative. Han Jimin recombines a sense of déjà vu and imagination about the worlds at life's boundaries through linocut.
All five artists are participating in solo or group exhibitions at Pageroom8 during 2026. United by a shared attentiveness to vision, synesthesia, and individual aesthetic sensibility, these artists give precise form to the meanings and feelings that lie beneath the surface. This delicate and imperceptible difference — we call it nuance.
